One Cut Above with Lazerian

Lazerian is the brainchild of Manchester-born furniture designer and experimentalist Liam Hopkins who, with fellow designers Richard Sweeney and Jason Chart Davies and under the supervision of pet mascot Gerald, offers a small yet perfectly formed range of innovative hand-finished structural home objects and furniture pieces, predominantly birch plywood-based, with top-end machine-cutting technology as the common denominator, illustrated here by the lampshade range that will be sure to get the full attention of residents and their guests and stimulate those dinner party conversations; we couldn't resist adding the pièce de résistance at the end of this feature, namely the surprising cardboard-made "Radiolarian Sofa", inspired by structural forms in nature - most noticeably a wasp nest - and by the crystalline bone structure of those microscopic sea organisms that go by the name of... radiolaria.

I Like...

My brother and his fiancee are getting married in less than two weeks! We have been busy making various decorations - including origami cranes and folding loads of tissue paper to create hanging pom-poms to decorate the ceremony and reception areas. I'm looking forward to see it all installed and in action!
I like this dining set-up above - it is also for a wedding. It has a grand and vintage feel to it all. The random combination of the lights and lanterns looks great above the ordered tables.

Looking through the lastest interiors, I've have noticed the popular use of lights by George Nelson. Introduced in 1947, these lights are constructed of a steel wire and covered in translucant plastic to emit a soft glow. The sculptural bubble lights have had a resurgence with the Mid Century Modernism followers for some time but they're now popping up in fresh and classic interiors. They're also making an appearance in colour for a limited time.

I haven't found many in NZ -  the occasional vintage one pops up in TradeMe. However, the US and Kiwi dollar is not looking so bad these days - check out Modernica and Room and Board.

Kid's Bedroom - Moon Light

I hope you can see from these not-so-great photos this fantastic light that my client found in London. When I first saw it, I had wondered about the 'speckled' finish on the globe - it wasn't until the light was turned on that I instantly recognised the Moon. So Earth on the walls (see post below) and Moon hanging above the bunk beds - pretty cool boy's bedroom.

After my previous lighting post - I found this interesting cost effective lighting solution - lights made from pickles jars. Found in Delancy Restaurant in Seattle. Clever. Check out the rest of the cool restaurant here.
