Be grateful when people

you would not develop
the strength

292 - Driveway

The old driveway is gone and getting ready for the concrete to arrive tomorrow.
New slat walls beside the deck and around the entrance at the back. Waiting for me to paint them.
Euan working on the driveway on the other side of the building. That's a new driveway edge which will have planting behind. Retaining walls waiting for me to stain them.

I haven't updated about 292 for a while but that's not to say that nothing has been happening! Plenty has been going on.
All the interior painting has been finished and the tiling is well underway - finished by the end of tomorrow we hope. Meanwhile, Euan the builder has been tackling the outside area. Last week this area was a complete mess - the plumbers had dug up all the dirt to lay the pipes. It was during the heavy rainstorms so there was water and mud everywhere. It is looking much better now and even more so tomorrow when the concrete truck arrives.
Dad and I have a weekend of finishing exterior painting details and cleaning up in preparation for next week. The plumbers and electricians will take over early next week to do their finishing touches, then the carpet will follow, in which I then follow with all my belongings and officially move in. Yah!

Letzter Unitag, ab morgen beginnt
die langersehnte vorlesungsfreie Zeit.
Es geht unter anderem an die Ostsee,
zu einem tollen Festival und schließlich
endlich wieder nach London, aber
mehr dazu, wenn es soweit ist.
Ich freue mich und werde diese Zeit
sicherlich sehr genießen!

First Anniversary...

The first 'Anniversary' is traditionally marked with gifts made of paper - I think this small (15cm tall) paper Pop-Up Doll House with laser cut furniture would be the ideal Interior Design Blog first year anniversary present! From Upon a Fold website, an Australian online store that stocks all things fabulous in paper.

One Year On...

It was one year ago today that I ventured into the blog world - Happy First Anniversary!
A year has gone by fast and it has been an education keeping a blog. I have posted about my interior design work, inspirational images and designs that are influencing my day-to-day thoughts and as of the last 5 months, recording the renovations of my two apartments at 292.
It is a great way to express oneself visually. There is a saying that you should put all your ideas out there in the world and it creates room for new ones in your head. I agree with this and I only hope that readers of this blog enjoy seeing them. Here's to another year.
The photos above are from my first posting - an interior design job that I worked on some years ago.

New York Style Cheesecake

I really have been a slacker and poor Hillary probably thinks I've abandoned her here or something ;) But I'm around. Just don't do a lot of cooking due to my work schedule. I'm not sure where I got this recipe but I found it somewhere a few years ago. My mom actually made it this time for my brother's birthday yesterday.

New York Style Cheesecake

1 cup honey maid graham cracker crumbs (or you can make your own if you are too cheap to buy crumbs like I am)
3 T sugar
3 T butter or margarine, melted
5 pkg (8 oz each) Philadelphia Cream cheese (any brand will do), softened
1 C sugar
3 T flour
1 T vanilla
1 C sour cream
4 eggs
Topping of your choice

Mix crumbs, 3 T sugar and butter; press firmly onto bottom of 9-inch springform pan. Bake at 325 for 10 minutes.

Beat cream cheese, 1 C sugar, flour and vanilla with electric mixer until well blended. Add sour cream; mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition just until blended. Pour over crust.

Bake at 325 for 65 minutes or until center is almost set. Loosen cake from rim of pan; cool before removing rim. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight. Spread topping over cheesecake and garnish as you please before serving.

Makes 16 servings.

And boy is it ever yummy! :)

Inspiration - Baby Nurseries

In tribute to my sister, Amelia who will be making me an Aunty around October and to all my friends who are having/had babies left, right and centre all around me. Here are some nurseries that I have seen on my blog adventures.

Don’t Focus on Failure

Internal defeat is a mental state in which they begin to believe that most new ideas will fail. You might think - "After all, what I tried in class last week Yoga, no."

You always learn from mistakes. When you see clearly as a test, review the results and look closely at why it went wrong.

Whether it's a lesson plan, trying to mantras, Hot Yoga, Gentle Yoga, a pro shop, or try something new, it's better than doing nothing wrong at all.

Some Yoga teachers more successful, I know, compared to the errors as part of a learning curve. They turn all their defeats in the learning experiences. This is extremely powerful when considering the cost of learning anything of value.

After all, what to spend on their education, so far? Think you stop learning at some point in life? Did you learn from past mistakes? Of course I did, and now are stronger due to adjustments for correction, he has done.

When a child learns to ride a bike, there are a lot of falls on the road, and then drops it. However, even skilled adults fall off bicycles, sometimes.

Therefore, do not take past failures personally. Put it behind you and learn from each other.

Henry Ford and the Wright Brothers had failures, but nobody seems to remember. Like them, you're not a failure, but may have failed in the past, as they did. When you put on yourself, look back at what you've accomplished.

When you take into your next project, do research first, assemble a team, make a full commitment to succeed, never mind before you start quitting.

Finally, whenever possible, learn from the mistakes of others. This is why companies come to me Yoga consulting services: To save money by avoiding known mistakes, pitfalls and traps.
