292 - Weekend Work

Filled up the skip - Dad and brother jumping on it to make sure it is well and truly compact.
Removing windows for cleaning, fixing and easing the sashes.
Dad - the master painter with a steady hand.
Eased the sashes, primed the the windows/facings and one coat of paint. The paint colour looks terrible next to the white. Not for much longer...
Removed all existing electrical wiring for recycling.

We had a productive day this weekend. We filled the skip second time round completely to the top with the last of the demolition rubbish. There was a bit of jumping action to settle it all down.
My brother dropped by and helped out for a couple of hours - which was great. "Many hands make light work"...
We also removed all the electrical wiring for recycling and create a clean slate for the Electrician when he comes on board.
We are now prepping the windows to get ready for painting. It is a fiddly job and old timber windows requires patience!! We've done one coat of the final paint colour after the priming -  the colour doesn't look too good next to the existing white exterior colour right now, so we'll just bear with it until we start the exterior painting. Not too far off, I hope.

Oil Painting or Real Photograph?

What do you think – is this an oil painting or a photograph of some girl?

woman painting

Well, the image may look like a painting at first glance but you’ll very surprised to know that its a photograph of a real woman captured with Canon EOS 50D.

Magazines.

Product - Tomahawk Campfire Table

I have just ordered this great coffee table for one of my clients. It is called 'Campfire Table' and it's easy to see why.
Inspired by the timeless ritual of human gathering around the fire, Tomek Archer, from Tomahawk Studios, designed this table out of a single length of timber, some clever well-placed connections and a glass top. It is available in ash, walnut, rock maple, black, red and white.
Photographs from Tomahawk website.

Update: After this posting this post yesterday, I received a lovely  email from Tomek. What a nice guy! I had made a typo so the link to his website wasn't working. All corrected now.

My Staples, Part 1

I've been asked what things I always have on hand, so I decided to do a 3 part series of those items. Today, I'll cover the refrigerator, Friday I'll cover the pantry, then next week I'll cover my spice cupboard.

I usually have a lot more than this at any given time. These are just the things I always make sure I have.

What I always have in my fridge:
eggs
mayonnaise
buttermilk
salsa
sharp cheddar cheese
real butter
sour cream
tortillas (corn and flour)
Dijon mustard
Parmesan
tons of veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, green onions, celery, carrots, broccoli, cucumber...)
lunch meat (always turkey, sometimes ham as well)
Asian items (soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil, etc)
bacon
hot sauce (Sriracha, Tabasco, etc)
ketchup
yeast
salad dressing (usually homemade, very rarely store-bought)
milk (2% for drinking, whole for bread-making)
Worchestershire

What things do you keep in your fridge that I didn't have on my list?

Edited: because I can't believe I forgot the Worchestershire!

Wishlist: 40's Tilt Hat

I have wanted a tilt hat since I worked at Harlequin Costume and Dance a few years ago. They have a few beautful hats in thier rental collection that I rented a few times while a worked there. I've been on the hunt for the perfect hat since.

Well I feel that day coming closer with my new job and my increased pay. That combined with the fact that The Boy has a credit card and a Paypal account. I think I'll be buying one this spring online!!

I've got my eye on these lovely ladies:

These two are from Past Perfect Vintage

40's Felt Tilt Hat with Mouton. $55 US

40s Fushia Felt Hat with Ginko Leaves. $65 US

I also spotted these two at Couture Allure Vintage:

40s Felt Tilt with Pink Flowers and Veil. $35 US

40s Purple Felt Tilt with Felt Flower. $55 US

As I post these images it's becoming clear to me that I'm clearly wanting a hat with flowers on it! haha! I do like the idea of a hat with a veil. I'd also like one made of straw if I could find it. Then I might be able to wear it in the summer. Maybe two tilt hats then? One of felt for winter and one made of straw for summer!

I'll be sitting down with The Boy this week to do the shipping and currency math to see how reasonable one of these pretties might be.
I'll let you know what happens!!
