I was introduced to Christopher Farr Cloth yesterday during a presentation by Designers International, Auckland. I instantly recognised the 36-24-36 fabric designed by Ilse Crawford (as seen above on the bed) and it is available in a great range of colours. The whole CFC textile range is rather lovely and it was great to see the good quality up close and personal. I have admired the 36-24-36 from afar for some time and indeed it is very good to know how handy it is now...

I was doing some visual research for some new clients of mine and I came across this project.

This is High Road House in Chiswick, West London. Part of the Soho House brand, Ilse Crawford from Studio Ilse was the designer for this hotel and private memebers club. As usual, she pulls off her traditional and modern combinations, homely and snug but still commercial enough, clever lighting, muted and bold colour pairings and cool furniture pieces. It just always seems to work.

Note to me - must visit when in London.

Summer is here in New Zealand - not that we would know it from the rain and cold that we're having right now!!
Yellow is such a happy Summer colour - so until the sun starts shining again, here's a collection of interiors with touches of Summer yellow that keeps me going.

Kranzbach Spa Hotel, Bavarian Alps

Looking through the lastest interiors, I've have noticed the popular use of lights by George Nelson. Introduced in 1947, these lights are constructed of a steel wire and covered in translucant plastic to emit a soft glow. The sculptural bubble lights have had a resurgence with the Mid Century Modernism followers for some time but they're now popping up in fresh and classic interiors. They're also making an appearance in colour for a limited time.

I haven't found many in NZ -  the occasional vintage one pops up in TradeMe. However, the US and Kiwi dollar is not looking so bad these days - check out Modernica and Room and Board.

Inspiration - Grey Walls

All shades of white on walls will always be a classic and popular choice but I have to say it's really nice to see these deep greys making an appearance. I have a client at present with grey walls and it's amazing how the colour changes during the day - some times with a green tone, other times slightly brown.

The top two images are from the cool Ilse Crawford. These rooms are from the Whitechapel Depot in Notting Hill. The black and white details look great against the grey. The crisp white walls and ceiling help balance the grey and keeps it very modern.

The last three images are from Nate Berkus. The first one, overall very harmonious. The second one - I especially like how the leather chair just glows warmly against the dark walls. And the last one - the layering of greys on greys with walls, table and bench seat in various shades and letting the white lamp and neutral sofa stand out.
