Inspiration: Hummingbird Girls

I just spied this outfit over at Hummingbird Girls and knew it was perfect for the cool rainy weather we've been having.

I will definately be emulating this look very soon. So cute!

Happy Saturday!

Finding Images for Inspiration

A great bedroom inspiration from House to Home.
How about a traditional hallway?
Are you after a modern home office?
Or a rustic kitchen?
One thing that is important for a client to have when they meet their designer is images to show what they love, what they aspire to for the proposed design work. I know that I have occasionally tried to work with a client who hasn't shown me any images/ideas and it hasn't work as we'll be visualising completely different concepts. It's essential that the designer and client are on the same page - so in saying that, here is a great website with lots of inspirational images for you to choose from. It's called House to Home and it is a photo library/gallery of seven UK magazines - including Living Etc and Homes and Gardens. So if you're after some visual inspiration, check this out. There is every style possible in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, home offices and the list goes on.

Sunglasses

I love a good pair of sunglasses. (btw...lamest post name ever...I just didn't know what else to call this one) I wear mine all year round. Summer is a no brainer, but I've got to have sunglasses in the winter too. Too much light reflected off the snow. Makes me squinty.

I tend to buy cheaper sunglasses as I am hard on them (I like to throw them haphazardly into my purse when I'm not wearing them...it's bad, I know...I can't stop) and go through a pair or two a year. Sunglasses are also a great way to update your look without spending a fortune. And I like that.

I showed you my newest pair yesterday. I'm quite smitten with them.

They reminded me of two very stylish ladies:

What would you have named this post? Happy Tuesday!

Party Prepping

Next Saturday my Mom is throwing a 60th birthday party for my Step-Dad. It's a costume party! And since my Step-Dad is turning 60 we've been asked to dress in 60's style for the party.

So as you can imagine, I've been consumed with 60's styled thoughts. I not only have to dress myself, but I have to dress The Boy as well!

I was really tempted to go all out Mad Men, but that's pretty similar to my usual going out attire. So I thought I would go out of my usual vintage comfort zone and dress 60's mod!

Here's a little peek of what I've pulled together (out of my own collection of course!) for the party:

I'm still working on The Boy's costume. I'll be shopping this week for him.
I've saved these images as inspiration for his costume:

All of these images found here.

I will definately share photos of the party next weekend with you!

It's Snowing Again...

with no signs of letting up! We have had so much snow fall this year and today some more fell. LOTS more. I've tried to take a few photos from the house windows so you can see, but they just don't do the reality outside my door any justice. What you can see though is that it is truly some sort of winter wonderland. (I for one wish it would just hurry up and melt. But that doesn't happen here until April or May. *sigh*)

Just to give you an idea of how much snow that is. That bush is taller than me (I'm 5'3"). The fence is 4'.

This is out our front window. Don't mind the glare!

I become a hermit when it's like this in Winnipeg. I dislike driving in this weather because it can be so dangerous. The roads become icy, or you can get stuck on an unplowed residential road. So I prefer to stay in when I can.

This is the reason for the lack of outfit posts of late. I've been bundling up so I can brave the elements. Which is usually less than fashionable.

So as I sit on my couch in my sweats I surf the net in search of inspiration. Since Dita appeared in my InStyle this month I've once again become obssessed with Googling my favorite burlesque star. Here is some of the eye candy I've procured. (Sorry, I don't have sources for all of these. I've been collecting them for a while. Most of them are probably from JustJared. I know, I'm one of those people. What can I say? I'm obssessed!!)

I love this photo of Dita. This is often my desktop. I love the dress and her bra peeking out.

I wish I looked like this while I lounged around my house!

LOVE this outfit! LOVE her hair! I'm going to wear mine like this when it gets longer.

Great hair!

I really love Dita's casual looks. Especially her Coachella atire. So good.

Still just gorgeous without makeup! Glowing!

I want my hair to look like this everyday.

Good day to you! Thanks for stopping by!

Dita: The Showgirl Nextdoor

Ok, is it just me geeking out about Dita's house in the February edition of US InStyle?

I heard Dita Tweet not long ago her house was being photographed by a US magazine and have had my eyes and ears peeled since trying to figure out which one I needed to get my hands on. Turns out I already have a subscription and it was in my mailbox two days ago! Score!

Her house is just spectacular! If I was a single gal it would be the vintage home of my dreams. I only wish they had shown more photos of her dressing rooms.

If you can't get your hands on a copy of the glossy pages where you live I did find the complete article online here (click on the photos of Dita to see the article).
But if you can get your hands on a copy, please go buy one. Trust me, it's so much better in person (well, the magazine is...I've never been to Dita's house...you know what I mean...).

Or maybe I'm just an old fashioned girl who loves to cart around a good book or even a magazine...

Did you love Dita's house too?

Inspiration: Modern Marlene Dietrich

I spotted this photo on The Sartorialist yesterday.

I'm not much for menswear inspired clothes for myself (I feel wierd in them), but I adore the look on others.

This woman instantly made me think of Marlene Dietrich. Awesome!

Photo borrowed without permission!!

Happy Saturday!

Outfits: SJV Inspired

I find myself inspired by my fellow fashion bloggers more and more these days.

I just adore the styling over at Sally Jane Vintage. Her young 60's-ish vibe always gets my creative fashion juices going even though my personal style is usually more 50's inspired.

This outfit is an homage to SJV. Beret and all. :)

Red Beaded Beret: Thrifted
Silver and Mother of Pearl Necklace: Ragpickers
Blouse: Jacob
Navy Polka Dot Dress: Thrifted
White Skinny Belt: Ragpickers
Navy Tights: Christmas Gift
Brogues: Aldo
Family Ring: Was my Grandma's

I almost didn't make it home in time to take photos today! The photos are still a little grainy...damn winter. And I think the new photo spot is growing on me...you're right Penny. The light is better. :)
