Carl Kleiner's Sweet Sensations

Last year Swedish photographer Carl Kleiner cooked up a storm in the Ikea kitchen with his spiced-up revisit of the humble recipe book, where he gave free rein to his visually innovative destructured interpretation of the recipe concept, with photos alone doing the talking, bringing an end to the perplexity of words, unclear instructions and approximate translations, while proving once and for all that the proof of the pudding is not just in the baking!

Man's Best Friend...

... is a four-legged companion with human qualities that might be lacking amongst some of our peers: a dog takes you as you are, loves you unconditionally, trusts you, bears no grudges, and all these might become his downfall if handled by the wrong hands; in Mirabelle's case, it's all good though, Tickle our Jack Russell Terrier mascot is a hoot and we adore him!

Informal & Wild like an English Garden!

No strict rules to abide by, no straight lines, no tidy lanes, no topiary rigidity, no constraint and certainly none of the formality of French landscaping; here the order of the day is to reproduce untamed nature within the confines of a country garden, with riots of shapes, blooms, scents and colours almost free to go and grow as they please, with the clipper delicately guiding and shaping them.

Palm Springs: Playground of the Beautiful People

Every day is a holiday, and every holiday a poolside cocktail party, entertained by beautiful views stretching beyond the manicured lawns and over the sierra, while the hostess with the mostest and her chic lady friends strike a pose and discuss couture, husbands, children, travel, hobbies, gossip and young lovers... and not necessarily in that order.

If we ever got tempted by the belief that lines, curves, repeated patterns and angles abiding to some form of geometrical logic were associated to the realm of the man-made (translated pragmatically and/ or artistically through architecture and design), let's pause for a moment; nature too has cultivated the idea of order and linearity to serve its own purposes, let's just take a look at the vegetal world...

Man vs. Nature - Northern Corsica

From the origins of human life, the great architect of the universe has "pitted" mankind against the elements and the natural world; in our daily peregrinations we may appreciate the evidence of complementarity between man and nature, their challenges and frustrations too, for in the quest for existence is a battle of the fittest, a Darwinistic illustration of every second spent on Earth...

Source: Pict 1-6: Taken by Mirabelle (2010) in the Northern Cape area of the French Mediterranean island of Corsica, where like elsewhere man and nature fight it inch by inch, tooth and nail, for territory in sometimes harsh climatic and toponymic conditions. The indigenous vegetation has demonstrated its incredible adaptability and resilience to poor soil, rocky terrain and high temperature variations between night and day/ Summer and Winter. Some plants develop rampant networks of roots for that extra grip and quest for the precious water commodity.

Grandeur & Decadence: Detroit's Michigan Central Station

The flipside of grandeur is decadence of dizzy-high proportions; nonetheless from the tragedy, from the combined obsolescence and degenerescence of the once-bustling station emanates solemn beauty at its most pared-down form, bathed in visual silence.

Pict 1-4: Michigan Central Station is one of Detroit USA's iconic derelict constructions. Built in 1913 it was sadly doomed as a white elephant, never achieving its full potential despite its credentials. Later in the 1970s, the motor town's changing fortunes further accelerated its demise. The station's future has been hanging in the balance since closing down in 1988 and demolition is now on the cards as the only viable option. That will be yet another Detroit symbol biting the dust. mood: hm.. pretty good.

Der erste Tag wieder zurück an der Uni verlief ziemlich gut, nur der Schlafmangel macht sich langsam ein wenig bemerkbar..

Wie das eben nach den Ferien so ist, nicht wahr?

Diese Fotostrecke habe ich eben entdeckt, verbreiten die Bilder nicht einfach nur gute Laune?

Schön zu sehen, dass Models auch immer noch richtig schön lachen können :)

Achso, eins noch... nachdem ich immer noch ziemlich viele Fragen per Mail oder per Kommentar bekomme, weise ich euch noch einmal auf meinen Formspring-Account hin, dort ist das Beantworten eurer Fragen leichter und geht auch vor allem schneller für mich!!
