Nepotism Praise.

The latest issue of Home New Zealand magazine is out and according to the magazine staff, the most popular house in this issue is one designed by my architect sister, Amelia. Ah, praise indeed - well done sis! Check out the latest issue for the whole story or the blog here for the outtakes.

Post Collection - Kitchens

I have started some 'Post Collections' to the sidebar of this blog. You can click onto the image and see all the posts involving that subject. 292 is for my two flat renovation that I have recently started with my Architect Dad, My Work - Joinery shows different joinery designs by CMD and the just-added My Work - Kitchens. I will keep adding these collections on once I have more posts on each subject (and the blog labelling sorted!)
The kitchen above I did several years ago. Minty Architecture designed a large addition and renovation to this house and I came on board for the interiors, including the kitchen and bathroom designs.
This kitchen worked really well and was very central with immediate connections to the Family room, Study, Hallway and Dining room.

Here is another collaboration with Minty Architecture. A new garage with a studio above was designed and built on the street in front of the existing house (see top photo).

This house is located on a street that has a reputation for brightly coloured houses and the clients wanted to carry on the tradition. One half the client duo wanted to keep the overall exterior scheme simple and the other half loved purple.

So this scheme was pulled together - we went bold on the weatherboards and doors and we balanced this with white trims and neutral greys. It has a slight Scandi feel about it. We put the much loved purple on the front door of the main house and on the letterbox.

The colours has been getting great response on the street, the clients are delighted and even our star builder, Euan likes it. Sweet.

New Work - Bathrooms

Following on from the new kitchen post last week - here are the new bathrooms from the same newly refurbished house by Minty Architecture. The first three images are of the main bathroom (with the timber floor) and the last two is of the ensuite (with tiled floor). So you can see we kept to the same materials and finishes.

It is hard to take photos of bathrooms as you don't really want see photos of toilets! So I have mainly focused on the joinery.

You can see how we used the joinery to set in the bath tap and mixer, which created extra bench space on top as well.

I'm liking the semi recessed basins sunken into a white benchtop - to give the impression as one piece. However, it meant that we had to take all the white formica options (there is actually a few) to the bathroom shop and make sure we got the right white. The showroom assistant did think I was odd...got to get these things right!

New Work - Kitchen

Here is a new kitchen that I designed earlier this year. This was part of a collaboration with 'Minty Architecture' - my architect sister, Amelia Minty. We occasionally work together and here she got me to design the kitchen, bathrooms, joinery and other interior details.

For the kitchen, we kept it simple, clean and white with a splash of red. We allocated the red on the splashback and we brought it out into the Dining area with a red pendant light. The client's heart collection continues the theme.

The breakfast bar is ready for some stools and the well travelled clients have added their cool little details, re: Miss Statue of Liberty on the window sill. I couldn't resist.
