Set personal and self-improvement goals
Your first challenge when setting goals is to find out what you truly want in life. What are the desires of your heart? Take time to ask yourself what you really want, and write down any ideas that come to you. Even if it seems like a far-fetched or crazy idea, write it down. Write down anything and everything you want to achieve in your life. Give a voice to all the desires inside your heart. You may wish to seek the help of a mentor or life coach, who can help you see where your desires and dreams lie.
Once you’ve written some ideas down, you may begin to see some patterns. Seeing your dreams on paper will help you break your goals up into sections. You may have a section for health, one for career, material wants, and spiritual or religious goals. The sections you choose may vary, but you’ll probably find that your goals will fit into four or five different categories.
For each section you choose, break it down and ask yourself where you’d like to be in that area in the next few months. Then ask yourself where you’d like to be in a year, then two years from now, and then five years. Write each of these goals down. Writing your goals down should help build your motivation and excitement. You are on the way to living the life you dreamed of!
Build momentum as you achieve goals
Once you have written down your main goals and can visualize where you will be in five years, you are ready to start achieving. To break it down into attainable steps, choose your top 4 priority goals in each category. Write down one task that will get you one step closer to each of those goals. Make this a task small enough to achieve in a day. Every night before you go to bed, review your goals and set new tasks to achieve the next day.
If you persist in attaining your daily tasks, you will slowly move toward your short-term and long-term goal. When you achieve a goal, make sure to reward yourself, and then replace the achieved goal with a new one from your big list of goals. You will repeat this cycle every time you achieve a goal. Periodically review your big list, making sure it contains the goals you truly want to achieve. If you persist in this, you will find that over time your wildest dreams are starting to come true!
